F-106A 56-0459 while assigned to Air Force Flight Test Center (AFFTC) at Edwards AFB, CA nicknamed the Red Baron seen flying as part of an F-106 operational test program undergoing early flight testing out of Edwards. The Dayglo Red/Orange overall paint scheme was to aid camera tracking at extreme distances. This is a very early flight testing photo, as she is still equipped with the earlier J-75-P-9, after burning turbojet, which later gave way to the higher performing J-75-P-17 turbojet engine. She also still has the earlier curved air intakes, in this photo as well as Wing Fences which were replaced with Slots before being operational with the AF. And it has no tailhook yet.
