F-106A 56-0451 (USAF/Convair F-106A-1-CO Delta Dart, 56-451) landing after it's first flight on 26 Dec 1956 at Edwards-AFB piloted by Convair Chief Test Pilot Richard Lowe Johnson (1917–2002).. 56-0451, like it's sister 56-0452 the 2nd Six built, were Convair initially company birds. If you look close at 56-0451 here it doesn’t have a Tail Hook which was added many years later. The F-106 was initially designated as the F-102B and if you notice here the fuselage buzz number reads 'FC-451'. The first three F-106's had 'FC' buzz numbers, the FC being the F-102 designator while FE became the F-106 designator. For this aircraft to have FC on the side indicates it was in fact an F-102B at the time of this photo. [Information and photo by Joe Sylvia/GD Convair Rep]
