Base Guide for 1970-1971. On the cover, a couple of Convair F-106s of the 84th Fighter-Interceptor Squadron are depicted flying home over the Golden Gate. The ’70-’71 guide would be the last one produced for Hamilton by the Armed Forces Directory Service. The main units at the time were the 1st Fighter Wing (the first American air combat group), 84th FIS, Western Air Force Reserve Region, Western Communications Region, 904th Military Airlift Group, Western Aerospace Rescue & Recovery Center, ADC’s NCO Academy, and the Tactical Air Command’s 26th Air Transport Squadron. Among the many tenant units were the American Red Cross, the FAA, Hughes Aircraft Company, and East Bay Auto Supply. The base commander was Col. Lee Sarter, Jr. (Artwork by Sheridan McLaughlin)
