F-106B 57-2509 in lead of a 3-ship formation followed by F-106A 59-0138 and 59-0053 of the 498th FIS at Paine Field, WA in 1968. These planes are wearing the final 498th FIS tail flash design that began in 1966 when the unit moved to Paine field, and what followed the jets to Hamilton AFB and the 84th FIS in 1968. Notice the subsonic external fuel tanks under the wing. These jets obviously did not get the 360 fuel tanks yet when this photo was taken. Photo taken by the Photographic crew at Paine Field curtesy of Tom Culbertson, 57th CSS (Combat Support Squadron) at Paine Field, 1967-1968 supporting the 498 FIS.
