Painting of F-106B 57-2521 and F-106A 57-2497 of the USAF Interceptor Weapons School (IWS), Southern Air Defense Alert Flight, Tyndall AFB FL. USAF Interceptor Weapons School at Tyndall AFB Fl. had a special flight of F-106's that sat on continual 5-minute alert with conventionally armed (AIM-4) jets called "Southern Air Defense" to specifically deal with the Warsaw Pact bomber threat based in Cuba. They were called "Dixie Darts" and this painting is from that alert flight painted by the Flight Commander, Capt. Owen Jensen. Look carefully at the two logos in the bottom left of this painting. Dixie Darts - Southern Air Defense Alert Scramble Status (SADASS). Submitted by LtCol (ret) Mark B. Foxwell, Commander IWS.
