F-106A 59-0040 of the 119 FIS, 177 FIG Atlantic City "Jersey Devils", NJ undergoing repairs during the mid 80's in the main hanger of the 177th for a cracked belt frame (aka bulkhead). The crack was at the front edge of the right main wheel well radiating out from a wing attach point. A team of 5 from SMALC McClellan AFB, CA (Depot) came out to replace it, with the help of Bill Huff, 59-0040's Crew Chief. Bill recalls it took about 60 days to do this job and was a lot more complicated than anyone thought it would be. Here the right wing has been removed. Photos taken by Dave Kuntz, submitted by Hector Vazquez. Sam Merkel says "Bill Huff would be the expert on this repair, it was his jet and was hands on for the whole time.".
