From Robert Wegeman (former 48th FIS crew chief): "I was with the Squadron when the incident happened. Both survived okay, thank The Lord, but (when) they emerged from the C-131 bringing them home, they were both on crutches as they injured their right legs upon contact with the ground after ejecting and subsequent chute flotation down. Their legs luckily healed within normal time. Front seater at the time was Brigadier General (Francis A.) Humphreys Jr., 20th Air Division Commander. Rear seater was Lt. Col. Goerken. Both were okay with minor leg injuries. After General Humphreys was reassigned, Major General Tixier took over as 20th Air Division Commander until he retired. Brigadier General Paul Wagoner was the last 20th NORAD Region Commander at Fort Lee. The Command then shifted to 23rd Air Division at Tyndall and was to change yet again three years later to SEAD." (Editor's note: Brig. Gen. Humphreys was reassigned to J-3, HQ, U.S. Readiness Command after his assignment as Commander, 20th AD, and retired on July 1, 1979. He died on June 20, 2013.)

From Duane Artery: "I was the ops duty officer that day. The general and his seeing-eye IP overflew Tinker because someone was in a rush to get home. Both pilots successfully ejected. The general's primary goal -- post-ejection -- was finding his Rolex that came off during ejection."
