F-106A 58-0793 Painted as 57-2456
Castle Air Museum, Atwater, CA Luther is Home!
F-106A 58-0793 is painted as 57-2456 in the 1967 version markings of the 456th Fighter Interceptor Squadron commander's plane. It was acquired from AMARC and trucked to the Castle Air Museum in Nov 2002. It is the 155th F-106 produced and served with 7 different Air Force interceptor squadrons and 2 Air National Guard squadrons from 1959 to 1985. It was converted to a QF-106 drone in 1993 and returned to storage in 1998 until removed and trucked to the museum. Alumni of the 456th led the 'F-106 Save-a-Six Fund' fund-raising efforts to bring this aircraft to Castle Air Museum. It was officially dedicated and put on display May 2003. Our very sincere gratitude to Jameson Harvesting Inc., Turlock CA who generously donated the manpower, time and equipment to transport the aircraft from Davis-Montham AFB, AZ back to the Castle Air Museum, and to all the individuals who unselfishly donated cash contributions to the F-106 Fund for the Castle Air Museum. Without your generosities we would have never been able to save one of the very few remaining F-106's still in existence. -- The Alumni of The 456th F.I.S.
