Convair YF-106A 56-0451 Delta Dart on its FIRST FLIGHT at the Air Force Flight Test Center (AFFTC) Edwards AFB CA Dec. 26, 1956. Convair Chief Test Pilot Richard Lowe Johnson (1917–2002)completed the first flight of the YF-106A 'Delta Dart' at Edwards AFB, taking the delta-winged interceptor prototype to Mach 1.9 at 57,000 ft. This was the prototype provided by Convair as per the 18 April 1956 Air Force finalized F-102B production contract with Convair. It was the only aircraft to carry the 'YF'-106 MDS designation being the only prototype as well as the FC buzz code for being an F-102B. Notice the original curved intake lips, which were later changed.
