F-106A 59-0126 and 59-0145 of the 48th F.I.S. with Squadron Commander Lt. Col. Terry R. Luke, at Tyndall, March, 1981, Combat Pike standing with TAZ (Gerry Dick) and Teez in front of 59-0145. Gerry Dick, Maurice Pruneau and Kristopher Mendenhall were known TAZ wearers. From the Robert Wegeman collection.

This was our last 48th FIS Combat Pike with their beloved Sixes. This one was also unique in the first four days, our aircraft were configured with guns ( the M-61 systems ) and flew gun missions. After that the aircraft were reconfigured back to AIR-2A standard and flew standard ATR-2A Combat Pike missions, after all of the Squadron aircraft were qualified with the Genie annual requirement, we then flew AIM-4F/G Combat Archer missions and then after that phase, we flew Dissimilar Aerial Combat Tactics ( DACT ) missions in that final phase of the deployment.
