Pilot, Last Commander of the 456th Fighter Interceptor SquadronHe was a veteran of World War II and Viet Nam. Among his many assignments were tours with NATO in France and Thule, Greenland. He was Commander of the 433rd Tactical Fighter Squadron in Thailand and Commander of the 456th Fighter Interceptor Squadron at Castle AFB. John was shot down over Europe in 1944 and survived 15 months as a German prison-of-war. He was decorated numerous times in combat.Retiring to the Merced area, he pursued his other passion - golf. He won the 1982 Merced Golf Club Championship and the 1990 Merced Golf Club Invitational.
