18 Jul 60 - To 11th FIS, 343rd FG, Duluth MAP MN 11 Sep 61 - Crashed at Minot AFB ND. Lt Win E. DePorter ejected, survived. From Ken Holston submitted April 20, 2022: Fuel control failure cooked the turbine and caused engine failure; "all fire, no thrust". Win DePoorter was the first to use, and first to survive, an ejection in the Rotational B seat, although he recalls that the seat still experienced some minor malfunction. Several subsequent pilots were not so fortunate, and the seat was eventually removed from the fleet. Win volunteered for two combat tours (plus a third as an RTU IP) in the A-1 Skyraider and went on to amass what is believed to be the most attack sorties flown in SEA (657). He retired as an O-6 in 1985.
