F-106A 59-0010 on display at the Aerospace Museum of California, McClellan, CA during the Open Cockpit event of the Sacramento Museum Day 7 Feb 2015. Over 5500 attendees (free admission) and the weather held off nicely so that the planes could be displayed in their 'open' state. 'Heathcliff' showed off well (as always) and even had a few F-106 related visitors (one was a former Six maintenance officer for the 84th FIS). One visitor (who had three great young sons with him was a former Russian Air Force (Tupelov 'Bear' pilot) pilot (who showed great interest in the Six and its 'Cold War' lineage (did say whether he had ever been intercepted by any ADC Sixes in his RAF career, but I infer he had). Actually a very, very interesting fellow (with well disciplined sons, too, kudos to him [Christopher T. Carey Collection, AEOLUS Aerospace (www.aerospaceca.org) ]

G'day Mark! Great to hear from a former CC of this glorious bird. The name 'Heathcliff' is a reference to famed comedian Red Skelton's comedy act featuring the two seagull characters "Heathcliff & Gertrude'. Given Heathcliff''s rather amazing service record, including the 'nose job' incident and the final NASA adventure (along with 59-0130), just seemed to make the 'Heathcliff' nickname fit. If you were the last CC of 59-0010 then your name belongs by rights on the starboard canopy rail. We'll see about installing it there for you! Were there any other pet names you guys had for Balls-10 while on duty there at 5th? We'd love to hear about any of her history that you might have shared! I am the current CC, although back at Minot I was in Flight Medicine, taking care of the ADC crews. Good to hear about Capt. Letuorno, also; what was his first name (or first initial)? Thanks.

Just wondering who gave you guys permission to give my Airplane such a silly name.LOL.I was the Crew Chief on 010 ON that sad day she left Minot for the last time. She!!!!!!!!!!! Gave me tons of pleasure. Also many Dedicated Crew Chief of the month awards. She was just reconstructed when i got to 5th FIS.I must have put 10000 gallons of turtle wax spray wax on her when she had my name on her door. And Capt Letuorno's name on the canopy. She is a great aircraft and im very glad to see her preserved. She deserved a much better ending to her flying career than being shot down by some F-15 or F16.Thanks for taking care of my plane.I have to get out there and see her some day
