F-106A 57-0245 of ADWC on 2 November 1979 at Tyndall AFB. Note the flat gray paint, smaller US "roundels", black paint on the windscreen frame, and most noticeably the TAC-style tail number. This was just after ADCOM went away in Oct 1979 and was absorbed into TAC. This photo is possibly from Phillip Friddell's "Replica in Scale" blog. Obviously this "failed" paint scheme for the Six didn't take, but an interesting historical photo. If anyone has details on this paint scheme we would love to see comments on it.

I was the crew chief on her at this time. I fought not to have this done to her, I hated this paint sceem. It showed every little dirt and grease smug couldn't keep her clean.

I'm not familiar with this photo but it is strikingly similar to some of our aircraft in 1968 at Tyndall. Our round eyes, 572526, 572527, 572528. and 572530, were painted with a flat dirty white and the tail numbers were very small. I don't remember any other markings. All we knew at the time was they were wearing some sort of experimental paint concerning stealth. It was during the Pueblo problem so we figured they were related. It didn't last too many weeks and the aircraft were returned to normal paint and markings. We, the crew chiefs, referred to these aircraft as the "Ghost Sixes". Would love to know any additional info.
