572509 Landing Accident by Philip Viener. This aircraft F-106B 57-2509 was involved in a landing incident on 05 July 72 at Hamilton AFB, CA during a night training ride - night IFR approach over water. Aircraft struck the approach light embankment damaging the left main gear, which failed on touchdown. It then departed the runway to the left, careened through the ramp area between hangars and came to rest on the roadway where it is shown here after it slid from the runway and through a maintenance area. It just missed several objects and buildings. The plane kept skidding until the drag chute got caught in the fence. The left main gear punched a hole through the top of the wing. Note the skid marks in the street marking the skid path. With the help of Sacramento ALC depot SMALC, it was repaired at Hamilton AFB. The left wing was replaced. There were no injuries.
