F-106A 57-2464 at Oxnard CA in 1968 assigned at this time to the 437 FIS, 414 Fighter Group.

1968 is the only year this tail flash would have been at Oxnard, but what we don't yet know is what unit it was assigned to at the time of this photo. The 456th, 437th and 460th were all at Oxnard in 1968 with this tail flash during their transition periods from the 456th from which this tail flash originated, to the 437th which carried over the use of the tail flash for it's very brief 2 month unit existence, which never did have it's own tail flash, to finally the 460th who also wore this tail flash until coming out with it's own. Special note here, the 456 FIS was only assigned to Oxnard for a brief moment as it was deactivated as soon as it arrived and reactivated as the 437 FIS. All this in 1968.

I was part of the transition team, bringing these birds from Castle to Oxnard. I did run up and trims; signed off Red X conditions and was a test cell operator. Hated seeing them retired. One great aircraft.
