F-106B 59-0149 of the 119th FIS Atlantic City N.J with its deer “kill marking” that's stenciled on the forward fuselage representing the deer struck and killed by the jet at its home base at Atlantic City, where deer on the runway abound. The kill marking lists the date of the strike 18 Sept. 1980 and the name of the pilot who flew it LTC Ed. Gardella. [Photo taken by David A. Brown, David A. Brown Collection]

Bill Huff, 59-0149's Crew Chief writes "A little info for you about the deer kill insignia on the airplane. The aircraft was on takeoff from Langley AFB back to Atlantic City Air National Guard Base when it struck the deer. It cleaned off the inboard gear door almost completely. Only the upper hinges were left and some of the gear door rods. The aircraft returned to Langley the gear were pinned and it was flown back to ACY for us to fix. I know this is correct because I was the crew chief on that airplane from Jan of 1973 until some time in 1984, I believe when I switched airplanes with another crew chief." Bill Huff
