South Korean Daeseong-dong "Freedom Village"

South Korea's Daeseong-dong (Freedom Village) can be seen on the way to Panmunjeom.  The 230 resident farmers who live here descend from families who lived in the area before the Korean War.  Residents receive preferential treatment (including exemption from military service), but must also abide by strict rules (including a nightly curfew).  The village is guarded by the UNCSB-JSA MP's who enforce the daily 2200hr (10:00 PM) curfew, however with the transfer of all DMZ and JSA duties over to the ROK Army, this duty will fall to the ROK soldiers.

Other restrictions include physically living in the village a certain number of days per year, I believe that number is 265 days, but cannot confirm.  Also, a male village member may marry a woman from outside the village and bring her their to live, however females are not afforded this same rule.  A woman from within the village must marry from within the village in order to keep male outsiders from reaping the rewards given the true" Daeseong villagers.
