Maj Gen Jim Price was the commander of the 21st NORAD region, based at Griffiss AFB circa 1971. His 49th jet was all tarted up, befitting his exalted status. He had been known as "El Jefe" since his days at the helm of the 456th and at ADWC at Tyndall, and all of his jets had had the name on them. MG Price died on 15 May 73 when his jet was struck by lightning on takeoff from Griffiss.
