572509 Landing Accident by Philip Viener. This aircraft F-106B 57-2509 was involved in a landing incident on 01 July 72 at Hamilton AFB, CA during a night training ride - night IFR approach over water. Aircraft struck the approach light embankment damaging the left main gear, which failed on touchdown. It then departed the runway to the left, careened through the ramp area between hangars and came to rest on the roadway where it is shown here after it slid from the runway and through a maintenance area. It just missed several objects and buildings. The plane kept skidding until the drag chute got caught in the fence. The left main gear punched a hole through the top of the wing. Note the skid marks in the street marking the skid path. With the help of Sacramento ALC depot SMALC, it was repaired at Hamilton AFB. The left wing was replaced. There were no injuries.

UPDATE 6 Dec 2016: A new story has arisen to explain this. one that sounds much more plausible that the others. It's from Dick Stultz who says, and I quote "Gary Shepard did it. He lives a few miles from here. We are long time old buddies. He has to tell the story..They were having a party at Hamilton and they partied hard at the club that night, Went out and gave taxi rides. The next morning the B was parked in the street and there were a lot of Coors cans on the floor but no sign of the partygoers!!!" Now, looking at the photos, the position of the aircraft, the location of the aircraft -- this sounds like a good possibility.
