F-106A (F-102B) 56-0453, the 3rd F-106 produced by Convair at San Diego CA (was retained by the manufacturer) soon after it's arrival to the USAF at the Air Force Flight Test Center (AFFTC) Edwards AFB CA. This was the third aircraft provided by Convair as per the 18 April 1956 Air Force finalized F-102B production contract with Convair, and was also not a prototype, but still dedicated as a test and evaluation bird, thus did not carry the 'YF' designation. But, as with its two predecessors 59-0451 and 59-0452 it was still considered an F-102B via the FC buzz code even though it was well known the F-106 (FE) designation had been approved. It was powered by the YJ75-P-1 engine. Notice the pristine look, Wing Fences, old canopy, original curved intake lips, which were all later changed.... This shows all the original build aspects of the F-106 when first manufactured. USAF photo scanned from Bert Kinzey's C & M Vol 1, page 25
