The Military Armistice Commission (MAC) conference room, building T2 the "Blue Building", is a key building for talks between delegates. This is the only area open to visitors and is under extremely strict rule. Nowhere else along the DMZ can a visitor actually step across the DMZ's Military Demarcation Line (MDL) into North Korea except inside T2. The MDL, which separates North and South Korea, cuts right through the middle of T2, splitting the large delegates' table in half lengthwise. The microphones and cables placed lengthwise down the table signifies the continuation of the MDL through T2.
The ROK MP's are stationed in front of the door that exits to North Korea. You can walk to that side of the room, you can stand beside the MP, you can have your photo taken with him, but you cannot walk behind him! When the building is open to North Korean tour groups (never at the same time obviously) a counterpart DPRK MP is likewise standing in front of the door exiting to the South, for obvious reasons.
